Romero ‘to seal Tottenham exit’ after immediate Thomas Frank reaction

Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham is hanging in the balance.

The defender may have suffered with injury which kept him out for a big chunk of the season, but his performances when he did play have caught attention from elsewhere.

The sacking of Ange Postecoglou and the subsequent appointment of Thomas Frank is seemingly set to have a big impact on what the future holds.

Romero reacts to Frank appointment

Postecoglou did exactly what he promised at Tottenham, delivering the Europa League trophy, which also secured Champions League football.

However, finishing 17th in the Premier League table seemingly was too much to ignore for Daniel Levy, who parted ways with the Australian.

With a big season ahead, Levy has turned to Frank, poaching him from Brentford, where he achieved a 10th-place finish this season.

Although it has been talked about for weeks, even before a decision on Postecoglou’s future was announced, Tottenham announced the appointment of Frank on Thursday (12 June).

54 minutes after Spurs announced their new manager, Romero took to Instagram to send a message to his former boss.

In a heartfelt message, the 27-year-old wrote: “Ange, thank you for these two incredible seasons. You’re a fantastic coach, but above all, a great person who deserves the best.

“From day one, you paved the way despite the many obstacles that always existed and always will exist. Beyond everything, we won a trophy and went down in the history of this beautiful club, which is the only thing that matters.

“I wish you the best because you deserve the best, and thank you for everything.”

Romero all but confirms Tottenham exit

Romero has already raised eyebrows when it comes to comments about what his future holds.

The defender has expressed a desire to play in La Liga, conveniently, where he is attracting interest from Atletico Madrid.

Postecoglou’s sacking was announced on 6 June, giving Romero plenty of time to post his message over the past week.

Romero has been a key part of Postecoglou’s Tottenham.

The fact that the Argentinian has waited until just after the announcement of a new boss at Spurs surely makes his exit stance clear.

It is a very clear message of where Romero’s loyalties lie, as well as highlighting what he has also achieved in an early goodbye.

With two years remaining on his contract in north London, if Romero is keen on an exit from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, then the Lilywhites are best to cash in and reinvest the money.

An exit for the defender will surely be very close now, though.
