Rodrigo Bentancur ‘finished at Tottenham’ after contract news
Rodrigo Bentancur could leave Tottenham at the end of the season after a recent contract development.
Tottenham signed Bentancur from Juventus in January 2022 in a deal worth up to £21.5million.
The midfielder signed a four-and-a-half year contract in North London and has gone on to make more than 100 appearances for Spurs.
However, Bentancur will have just one year left on his deal in the summer and having already been linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it looks as though the 27-year-old’s exit might have already been sealed after contract news about one of his teammates.

Tottenham ready new contract for midfielder at Hotspur Way
It had been previously reported by Sami Mokbel via the Daily Mail (25 February) that Spurs had opened contract talks with Bentancur.
While speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King speculated that the Uruguay international could be offered as much as £150,000-a-week by Tottenham.
However, it has since been reported that Atletico Madrid have made contact with Tottenham about signing Bentancur this summer.
It is believed that Daniel Levy could accept a £35million offer, and it appears as though Spurs have already set their sights on extending a different midfielder’s contract.

As reported by FotbollDirekt (7 April), Tottenham could offer Lucas Bergvall an improved contract at the end of the season.
Talks are set to take place between the Swede and Tottenham in the coming months.
Therefore, Spurs could now be more willing to let go of Bentancur should an acceptable offer arrive.

Bergvall could be the future of Tottenham
While there is every chance that Spurs could offer both Bergvall and Bentancur new contracts, should the former put pen to paper on a deal, it makes an exit for the latter far more likely.
Bergvall is 19 years old and appears to have a bright future ahead.
Meanwhile, Bentancur is approaching his late twenties, and if a tempting offer were to arrive, Spurs might be inclined to accept that offer rather than extend Bentancur’s stay, especially if Bergvall’s long-term future has already been resolved.
