Mauricio Pochettino has killed any chance of romantic Tottenham return, his latest comments are shameful
Mauricio Pochettino may not have won any silverware during his time as Tottenham manager, but that hasn’t stopped fans from dreaming of a potential return to North London for the Argentine.
Spurs are currently facing loud calls to sack Thomas Frank after yet another disappointing Premier League campaign, in which he’s really struggled to improve on the domestic performances that Ange Postecoglou oversaw last term.
While Postecoglou managed to win the Europa League and end Spurs’ near-two-decade wait for a trophy, Frank barely seems capable of winning against another English team, let alone silverware.
The pressure on Frank has led to calls for Pochettino to be re-hired as Tottenham‘s next manager in the summer after he’s finished managing the USA at the World Cup.
However, new developments across the Atlantic should put paid to any shot Pochettino had of making a comeback at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino wants Timothy Weah silence over World Cup ticket prices
Pochettino has looked poised to become the next Tottenham manager after rumours of Spurs potentially hiring an interim boss to see out the rest of this season if Frank is sacked.
However, Spurs need to be giving the Argentine a wide berth, after he publicly berated USA international Timothy Weah for simply saying that the 2026 World Cup ticket prices are too high.
Weah, who’s currently on loan at Marseille from Juventus, said: “It’s too expensive, many real fans will miss the matches.”
2026 World Cup ticket price breakdown:
- Cheapest final ticket over £3,100
- Near-500% increase on prices at 2022 World Cup in Qatar
- FSA call prices “scandalous” and “laughable insult” to fans
| Opponenent | Round | Price range |
| Croatia | Group stage | £198 to £523 |
| Ghana | Group stage | £164 to £448 |
| Panama | Group stage | £164 to £463 |
| – | Round of 32 | £175 to £456 |
| – | Round of 16 | £220 to £575 |
| – | Quarter-final | £508 to £1,076 |
| – | Semi-final | £687 to £2,370 |
| – | Final | £3,129 to £6,489 |
Of course, the USA are joint-hosts of the competition, so for an American player to be speaking out against the competition’s organisers and FIFA, is something that should be commended by all football fans across the world.
The Football Supporters’ Association has called the World Cup ticket prices “scandalous” after some of the most expensive football tickets in the history of the sport were put on sale, with the cheapest final tickets costing over £3,100.
The average football fan has been well and truly priced out of attending most matches. But USA manager Pochettino just wants Weah to keep his mouth shut and keep on playing football.

“My job, my duty, is to prepare the team, the United States national team, in the best possible way to perform. We are not politicians. We are sports people and we can only talk about our work,” said Pochettino.
“The players should speak on the field, by playing football, not off it; it is not their duty to evaluate ticket prices.“
Pochettino’s statement ‘tone-deaf’
Former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop, speaking on Futbol Americas can’t believe that Pochettino would so openly try to shut down one of his players’ opinions.
“It’s disappointing, and that’s as nicely as I can put it,” said ex-West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.
“Athletes have been using their platform for quite some time. The challenge to athletes using their platform has been debunked continuously.
“Given what’s happening off the field, politically, it couldn’t be more tone deaf.
“This is harkening back to 60 or 70 years ago, this is beyond belief that in 2026 we have someone like Mauricio Pochettino making this statement, given the position he holds in this country, with its history of athletic activism.”
Pochettino is clearly more than just the USA manager for the 2026 World Cup.
He’s seemingly a puppet and a mouthpiece for FIFA.
Everything about the upcoming World Cup has been nauseating, from a so-called ‘peace prize’ for a president who wants to invade and seize new territory to the staggering ticket prices.
This isn’t a World Cup for football fans.
This is a World Cup for the wealthiest and worst people around.
Pochettino’s role in defending that means that Tottenham – and any club in England – have to avoid hiring him because he clearly doesn’t care at all about us normal football fans.
