Maddison ‘finished at Tottenham’ after £21m transfer developments from Turkey

James Maddison could be set to leave Tottenham this summer.

The England international has notched nine goals and five assists in 27 matches in the Premier League for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

However, the 28-year-old has been a rod for criticism due to the Lilywhites’ struggles and may decide to move on if they fail to secure Champions League football.

A new development from Turkey could allow the former Coventry star to depart for greener pastures when the transfer window reopens.

Tottenham enter £21million Sebastian Szymanski race

Tottenham are planning to reignite their Sebastian Szymanski interest in the summer transfer window.

Turkish outlet Aksam reports (27 March) that Spurs are interested in a move for the Polish international and are set to rival Nottingham Forest for his signature.

It states that Napoli and Milan are also in the race and are willing to pay approximately £16m but Fenerbahce will demand a figure closer to £21m.

Szymanski signing could spell disaster for Maddison

Maddison is a consistent performer for Spurs when he is fit but if they sign Szymanski then that could open the door for the Englishman to demand an exit.

Spurs need to do everything that they can to hold onto the former Norwich ace as there is no guarantee that the Polish star will replicate his production.

The 25-year-old can feature from the number ten role or the left flank but has only notched two goals and five assists in the Turkish league, so huge doubts remain over his ability to contribute in the top-flight of English football.

Maddison’s production goes under the radar a lot, as he is often slammed for being inconsistent when that is not the case.

He is also one of the only members in the squad that will take accountability when he is not playing well and he acts as a leadership figure, as Djed Spence revealed earlier this week.

Injury issues have stifled his progress this season, but there is still a brilliant player there and if Spurs decide to move on it would be a mistake as they would lose a huge influence on and off the pitch.
