Maddison ‘fearing for Tottenham future’ after Angel Gomes transfer decision made

James Maddison has been in spotty form for Tottenham this season, much like the rest of his teammates.

However, there have been times when the Englishman has been essential to Ange Postecolgou’s set-up and has even earned them the odd three points here and there.

And, now that we’re edging closer to the winter transfer deadline, it feels like clubs across the world are going to be making last-ditch attempts to improve their ranks.

Tottenham are in dire need of strengthening after their form this season and Angel Gomes is a name that has been linked with the North London outfit since the window opened.

However, after a new report from Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath (3 February), it seems that the Englishman is set to stay in France with Lile until at least the end of the season.

But, a bid in the summer from Spurs hasn’t been left out which could leave Maddison fearing for his Tottenham future by the end of the term.

Angel Gomes would be an impressive signing for Tottenham

While defensive injuries have riddled Tottenham this season, their attack hasn’t always been up to scratch either.

Dominic Solnake has been ruled out for an extended period and after the lack of form that Son Heung-min has shown this season, it feels like Postecoglou may have to improve his attacking ranks sooner rather than later.

Gomes was called up to the England national team by Lee Carsley late on into 2024 and while his previous stint with Manchester United in the Premier League isn’t fondly remembered by many, he seems to have come on leaps and bounds since his move to Ligue 1.

Maddison is likely to be Spurs’ first-choice number 10 for some years to come but if Gomes comes in and starts out-performing the former Leicester City man, it could be curtains for the 28-year-old.

In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy has been accused of “killing” the North London outfit after what happened.
