Levy ‘pulls off almighty Tottenham masterstroke’ as Burnley transfer nears

Daniel Levy has dealt with a lot of criticism from Tottenham supporters this season.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side have dramatically underperformed on the pitch and that has led to the ownership being the subject of multiple protests.

The North London club look set for a summer of serious changes behind the scenes, with Vinai Venkatesham arriving and Scott Munn potentially on the way out.

Despite the concerns around his leadership, Levy may be about to pull off a brilliant move in the transfer market.

Levy set to pull off Tottenham transfer masterclass

Former Spurs academy graduate Marcus Edwards moved to Burnley after falling out favour at Sporting CP in Portugal.

That loan is set to be made permanent if the Clarets are promoted to the Premier League, which could be confirmed as early as Monday (21 April), and the Lilywhites are due a 35 per cent cut of the £8.5million fee, according to O Jogo (20 April).

That would represent a pure profit of £3m after Levy allowed the clause to roll over after Vitoria de Guimaraes sold Edwards to their Liga Portugal rivals.

A small fee it may be, but it can be considered an almighty masterstroke from Levy’s perspective as he had the foresight to include a clause that is still paying dividends for Tottenham all these years on.

Tottenham set for huge summer

Spurs need a significant squad overhaul in the summer as they cannot allow another season like this one.

The Lilywhites need attacking and midfield reinforcements, regardless of whether Postecoglou is still in the job or not.

Spurs have had a miserable league season.

While the backroom change is necessary to avoid a repeat of the horrendous campaign, the focus should be on securing their top targets ahead of a vital transfer window and winning the Europa League to end a 17-year trophy drought.

Being in the Champions League will allow Spurs to target a higher calibre of players and hopefully get themselves out of the horrendous circumstances that they find themselves in right now.

The pure profit that Levy negotiated then allowed to roll over is a masterstroke and they will need more clever decisions like that to be made.

The beleaguered owner has been labelled as frugal in the past and he needs to take the handbrake off this time because it will take top-quality players to turn the situation around.

If he fails to do so, the noise around his future will only get louder.
