‘Levy faces familiar questions’ as Tottenham open talks for £21.5m Club World Cup star
Daniel Levy could be about to face a series of familiar questions from Tottenham fans.
All the signs so far this summer have pointed towards the Spurs chief preparing to back Thomas Frank heavily in the transfer market as he prepares to lead the team into the upcoming campaign.
Yoane Wissa is the latest star to be linked with a potential big-money move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the Lilywhites are also thought to be one of the sides tracking Jack Grealish’s situation at Manchester City.
Frank will want to bring his own players through he door as he begins to mould the Spurs squad into his image, and it had seemed as though Levy was willing to provide the resources for him to do that.

Spurs want to sign Jhon Arias from Fluminense
Levy’s desire to sign Mohammed Kudus from West Ham is one potential deal that would be firmly out of character for him.
The Spurs chief has a troubled relationship with the Irons’ hierarchy, which has seen him avoid doing business with them wherever possible in the past.
The Kudus situation, combined with the numerous expensive links in recent weeks, have prompted questions as to whether the 63-year-old is about to change his ways in order to deal Frank the best possible hand.
However, it now seems as though he could be about to get up to his same old tricks, following Spurs’ latest transfer link.
The North London outfit are thought to be keen on a deal to sign Fluminense’s Jhon Arias, according to Fichajes (9 July).
Arias and his teammates saw their Club World Cup campaign ended by Chelsea at the semi-final stage on Tuesday (8 July), but the forward’s performances have seemingly caught Spurs’ eye.
Talks between the two clubs are thought to still be in the early stages, but a deal could potentially take place for a fee in the region of £21.5million.
The Colombian is 27, and has never played outside South America, which begs the question as to whether is once again about to take the cheap option on a signing, as has been seen so often over the years.

Arias would be a poor signing for Spurs
Some of the deals that Spurs have been linked with in recent weeks will have brought plenty of optimism to the fanbase, but if the Lilywhites choose to progress their interest in Arias, it would surely see a return to the same old story.
Attacking additions are seemingly the order of the day in N17, given the links of late, and if Levy were to opt for the Fluminense man ahead of some of the more glamorous options, it would see familiar questions asked of the Spurs chairman.
Season | Apps | Goals | Assists |
2025 | 11 | 1 | 4 |
2024 | 27 | 7 | 3 |
2023 | 29 | 7 | 7 |
2022 | 33 | 7 | 10 |
2021 | 19 | 1 | – |
Arias has now spent a significant period of time in the Brazilian top flight, and although his numbers are nothing to be sniffed at, it’s fair to say there is a sizeable jump in level to the Premier League.
At 27, he has little room left to develop, which would surely be a concern if Tottenham were to bring him in.
If he is signed as a backup option, alongside a big-name player, then it may not be the worst piece of business, but if Levy has designs on signing him ahead of Kudus and Co., then there would be understandable frustrations aimed in his direction.
