‘Levy can sign perfect Porro alternative’ at Tottenham after £20m+ transfer news
Daniel Levy has been presented with an excellent solution to Tottenham’s issues at right-back.
Tottenham are in the market for a full-back, as they currently have only three players, Pedro Porro, Djed Spence, and Destiny Udogie, who are perfectly suited to the position.
Archie Gray filled in at times last season, as did Micky van de Ven, but their strengths lie elsewhere, and they are not seen as long-term solutions for that area of the pitch. Meanwhile, Ben Davies is a left-back by trade, but his best years now lie behind him.
Given that Porro has been linked with a move away from Tottenham in the past, and considering the Spaniard played the most minutes under Ange Postecoglou, Levy would be wise to make the most of a recent transfer revelation.

Denzel Dumfries is available for £21.5million this summer
Thomas Frank’s primary focus in the transfer market so far has been on signing a potent forward, but the Dane will know that Tottenham’s defence was their Achilles heel last season.
Only four sides conceded more goals than Spurs in the Premier League, three of which got relegated.
It’s an area that Frank will need to address, and with Cristian Romero’s future still unclear, the Dane will expect significant reinforcements beyond the permanent signing of Kevin Danso.
One option available to Spurs is Denzel Dumfries, who has a £21.5million release clause in his Inter Milan contract, which is valid until mid-July, as per Fabrizio Romano via X (3 July).
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes Played |
Serie A | 29 | 7 | 3 | 1,951′ |
Champions League | 12 | 2 | 3 | 973′ |
Domestic Cups | 4 | 2 | – | 273′ |
The Dutch right-back had a stellar campaign for Inter last season, highlighted by his two goals in the UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg against Barcelona.
The 29-year-old is known for his inexhaustible ability to maraud up and down the pitch and is a massive presence in both boxes.
Dumfries is vastly experienced in Europe, and at that price, Levy must be tempted to bring him to Spurs as a perfect alternative to Porro, who lacks the same level of physicality and aggression.
Frank faces Spence conundrum
The decision to sign a left-sided or right-sided full-back largely depends on where Spence is expected to play under Frank.
The 24-year-old’s natural position is right-back, but his best performances in a Spurs shirt have overwhelmingly come on the left as cover for Udogie.
The Englishman’s propensity to carry the ball led him to prefer cutting inside and making underlapping runs under Frank’s predecessor, but the Dane may seek more crosses from his wide players, leaving him with plenty to ponder over Spence’s position.
