Joe Cole spot on as he attacks Daniel Levy and gives damning Tottenham title verdict

Tottenham fans are furious with Daniel Levy again, as the squad looks set to be left short after an underwhelming transfer window.

Levy has constantly failed to secure Tottenham’s targets, and failed deals for Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White have led to huge frustration among fans.

Spurs finished 17th last season, and despite Tottenham winning the Europa League, the Lilywhites need to drastically improve if they are to even remotely challenge for major silverware.

Former West Ham midfielder Joe Cole has now slammed Levy and the Tottenham hierarchy, and fans will agree with his damning assessment of the rot that has set in under ENIC’s ownership.

Joe Cole blames Daniel Levy for Spurs being uncompetitive

Spurs have watched Arsenal compete for the title in recent years, but while they are yet to win, ambitious signings such as Eze could help get them over the line.

Tottenham’s Europa League win was their first trophy in 17 years, and fans will be desperate to see them compete for the title alongside the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

However, Cole has already put that idea to bed this season after just one game, and speaking on TNT Sports before Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Man City, he slammed Levy’s lack of investment and ambition.

“This is how Daniel Levy has always done his business. He waits until the last minute, there will be three or four plates spinning, and there will be two or three players that come through the door, which may or may not become great players,” Cole stated.

Tottenham’s ownership structure

“He’s had some great results with Gareth Bale and Luka Modric, where he’s signed players, developed and sold them. The thing with Tottenham is that the fans are desperate to be competing for the Premier League and Champions League.

“The business model and ownership – they can come out and say ‘we want to win the Premier League,’ but what are you actually doing?

“You’re not competing with Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool financially, because they will just be able to blow you out of the water, and it is very difficult to win this league without spending the big money.

“Tottenham won’t be winning the league this year, that’s for sure.”

Tottenham have to invest in order to compete

As it stands, Tottenham have no attacking midfielder available for the next few months after Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison picked up long-term injuries.

Despite this, Levy’s dithering over the Eze deal allowed Arsenal to swoop in and snatch him, and if he helps the Gunners win silverware, Spurs fans will be even angrier.

The reality is that Spurs will not compete at the top level without more investment, regardless of how well Thomas Frank does with his current squad, and the club’s lack of success can be laid firmly at the door of Levy and the Tottenham owners.

Frank is doing his job with a huge win over City, but he needs help to continue that form.
