James McAtee to Nottingham Forest – Three midfielders Tottenham can sign instead

James McAtee is one of several Manchester City stars Tottenham have shown an interest in.

McAtee has become highly sought after following his form on loan with Sheffield United two seasons ago.

The midfielder has since struggled for gametime with the Cityzens and has pushed for an exit this summer, but now looks set to join Nottingham Forest despite interest from Spurs.

With Thomas Frank still wanting a new midfielder, Tottenham News looks at three alternative options.

Nico Paz could join Spurs

Frank is still looking to bolster his midfield, despite having already signed Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich.

Paz transferred to Como from Real Madrid last summer and recorded six goals and nine assists in what was a stand-out season in Serie A.

Tottenham have shown with the likes of Lucas Bergvall that they can help develop young midfielders and can help them transition quickly into the first team.

The Lilywhites do face strong competition from Real Madrid, who reportedly have a buy-back option for the 20-year-old.

Eberechi Eze can add firepower to the midfield

Having missed out on Morgan Gibbs-White, Spurs will still be keen to add more creativity to their central midfield.

Having been linked with the likes of Xavi Simons and Jack Grealish in recent weeks, Tottenham clearly have money to spend.

Eberechi Eze is another name that has been floating around.

The former Queens Park Rangers midfielder has been due a move to a top club for the past couple of seasons, and given Crystal Palace’s demotion from the UEFA Europa League to the Conference League, he could find a move to Spurs attractive.

Eze is valued at around £80million by the Eagles, and the Lilywhites have the opportunity to move quickly for the 27-year-old.

Tottenham can take advantage of Douglas Luiz’s situation

Frank seems keen to offload Yves Bissouma this summer after his struggles last season.

Should Bissouma leave, Spurs will look for a deeper-lying player to replace him.

That’s where Douglas Luiz could come into play.

The Brazilian has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs after struggling to adapt to life in Italy, and Juventus are eager to sell him.

Top-flight rivals seem to be mulling over whether to pay the £30million fee for the 27-year-old, offering the opportunity for the Lilywhites to swoop in.
