How much money Tottenham will now save as Son Heung-min makes exit decision
Son Heung-min has announced his intentions to leave Tottenham this summer.
In front of a packed press room in Seoul, ahead of Spurs’ upcoming friendly against Newcastle (3 August), Son announced that he is going to leave Tottenham this summer.
It ends weeks of speculation surrounding the South Korean, who was emotional as he admitted that he had been sitting on this decision for a long time.
Tottenham are set to honour their captain’s desire and will help the 33-year-old facilitate a move, with Los Angeles FC currently in pole position to sign the departing legend.

Tottenham could save £8.93million following Son’s departure
Everyone at the club will undoubtedly be sad to see Son leave, including Thomas Frank, who shared kind words about the player while sitting alongside him during the announcement.
The Spurs icon was contractually obligated to feature in both games against Arsenal and the Magpies, and will likely have wanted to end his Spurs career in front of his home crowd.
Given that everyone at Tottenham is on the same page, the mercurial forward could feasibly leave the North Londoners next week, after returning from their pre-season tour in Asia.
Son is Spurs’ highest earner, earning £190,000 a week according to Capology, and has just under 11 months left on his current contract.
Therefore, should a move be finalised by the end of next week, Tottenham could save up to £8.93million on the South Korea international’s wages.
This will not be the focus of anyone’s mind, but it will afford Frank more wiggle room as he looks to find a replacement for his outgoing skipper.

Son’s departure will take time to adapt to
Much like when Harry Kane left in August 2023, it will be virtually impossible for one player to fill the boots left behind by Son’s legacy.
Frank will look to make the transition as smooth as possible, but the loss of not only Spurs’ fifth-highest goalscorer, but also their captain, will take time to overcome.
The burden of responsibility will fall to the squad as a whole to step up and fill the void, but it will not be achieved overnight due to the magnitude of Son’s influence.
His departure will be met with nothing but well wishes from everyone associated with the Lilywhites, but it will also increase the pressure on Spurs ahead of the 2025/26 season.
