How much money Tottenham could save after Son Heung-min exit news

Son Heung-min could be on his way out of Tottenham after almost a decade at the club.

Son remains a highly respected figure at Tottenham but has gradually become less of a force on the pitch, prompting the North London club to consider offers.

Thomas Frank played the 33-year-old in his first friendly against Reading, but tellingly announced that he has yet to decide on his captain at Spurs going forward.

The South Korean is open to a move himself, having perfectly capped his tenure in N17 by lifting a major trophy last season.

Son will stay for the preseason tour in Asia, after which he will consider the latest offer, which could end up saving Tottenham millions this summer.

Son’s statistics for Spurs (2024/25)

Son signed a contract extension in January this year, which will run through to June 2026, earning him £190,000-a-week according to Capology (24 July).

Therefore, should he leave North London by the end of the transfer window, Tottenham would save at least £8.17million on his wages, not including any potential bonuses or clauses.

Getting the Lilywhites’ highest earner off the books would give Frank more flexibility this summer to bring new faces in as he continues to build a squad capable of challenging on all four fronts.

Tottenham’s highest remaining earners

Daniel Levy maintains a rigorous wage structure at Spurs, which saw the club spend the lowest amount on player salaries relative to its earnings last season.

Bar Son, only three players earn a six-figure weekly salary, as per Capology. James Maddison leads the way on £170,000-a-week, just ahead of Cristian Romero on £165,000-a-week.

There is then a significant drop to Dejan Kulusevski, who earns £110,000-a-week, while Tottenham’s total weekly payroll will exceed the £2m mark following the arrivals so far this summer.
