‘Frank to keep influential Tottenham duo’ after confirmed departures

Thomas Frank has huge decisions ahead of him as he assembles his squad at Tottenham.

Should Tottenham manage to avoid complications with the Morgan Gibbs-White deal and get it over the line, it would take them to five senior signings this summer.

This would give Frank over thirty senior players to choose from ahead of next season, which the Dane will have to reduce, partially to recoup some finances.

However, the decisions facing the former Brentford manager are complex and could be influenced by Tottenham’s recent departures.

Tottenham confirm departure of Rob Burch

Frank finished assembling his coaching staff at Tottenham, having initially brought three colleagues from Brentford when he signed for the Lilywhites.

Hours prior, Spurs confirmed the departure of Rob Burch as First Team Goalkeeping Coach in an emotional post on X (7 July).

The 43-year-old had been part of Spurs’ academy as a player before returning in 2023 to work under Ange Postecoglou in his new role.

However, Frank decided to bring in Fabian Otte from Liverpool to replace Burch, with Matt Wells the only senior survivor of the previous staff.

This will make players like Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero far more crucial at Tottenham, despite both being linked with exits this summer.

Son has been captain of the Lilywhites for the last two years and is very well respected in N17, while Romero’s influence on the pitch is unparalleled.

Frank will be desperate to keep the influential duo at Tottenham this summer to ensure some form of continuity in North London is maintained after all the changes, and to help his side transition into the new era.

Son would struggle for minutes at Spurs

One of the prerequisites of Son staying is likely going to be how much game time he will be afforded under Frank.

The South Korean has been a mainstay in Tottenham’s starting 11 for almost a decade, but having just turned 33 this week, may not command the same influence.

The additional signing of Mohammed Kudus, along with the returns of Manor Solomon and Yang Min-hyeok from their loan spells, will see Frank have up to eight wide forwards to choose from.

This is likely to see Son struggle for minutes, and have to accept a bit-part role for Spurs if he is to stay at Hotspur Way.
