Frank ‘to instantly save Levy millions’ after what he’s already decided at Tottenham

Thomas Frank is constantly assessing which players he deems part of Tottenham’s future.

Tottenham have officially published numerous videos from pre-season preparations underway at Hotspur Way as Frank tests the players’ fitness.

They are also slowly working their way up to training with the ball, all of which is giving the Dane valuable insight into how he will shape his squad for next season.

It is still relatively early days, with a handful of players still to return to North London, but Frank has already made one decision that could impact Tottenham in the transfer market.

Frank is set to repel offers for Luka Vušković this season

Competition for places in the Spurs squad has never been higher, especially in central defence, where Kota Takai’s arrival brought Tottenham‘s total number of centre-backs to nine this summer, excluding Archie Gray.

While the age-old adage is that this is the kind of problem a manager likes to have, it is unsustainable and will need to be resolved before the end of the transfer window.

Younger players within the squad are naturally most at risk. However, it has been widely reported that Luka Vušković is highly regarded by Frank and is expected to remain in the first team.

Vušković’s statistics at Westerlo last season (2024/25)

Last season saw him ply his trade on loan in the Belgian League with Westerlo, along with Alfie Devine, where he excelled at both ends of the pitch, including scoring an outrageous overhead kick against Club Brugges.

A deal, reportedly worth £12million, was agreed by Spurs to sign the Croatian in September 2023, after which he returned to Hajduk Split for the remainder of the campaign.

There has been considerable interest in Vušković from a range of clubs within the Championship and abroad, but the Dane is set to rebuff any approach for the time being.

Frank’s trust in the teenager could end up saving Daniel Levy millions in signing another defender this summer, especially given that Spurs have already considered signing a full-back.

Vušković opportunities could initially come as a defensive full-back

Vušković has spent most of his young career playing at centre-back, but given he is only 18 years old, Frank could mould him to offer cover in the wide areas.

Spurs currently have just three out-and-out fullbacks in Pedro Porro, Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie, all of whom are incredibly talented, but are very offensive-minded.

Tottenham do still have Ben Davies and Gray, who can cover on both flanks, but neither of them would prefer to play in those positions.

As such, Frank could look to convert Vušković, at least temporarily, to be able to play on both sides of the defence as a more solid option, which could afford the talented Croat more game time.
