‘Dane Scarlett on his way out of Tottenham’ after new Brentford reveal

Dane Scarlett’s time at Tottenham could be over as Thomas Frank shapes his squad.

Scarlett experienced a multitude of highs and lows last season as he was sent out on loan to Oxford, where he struggled to make an impact before being recalled by Tottenham in January.

The England Under-21 international then scored his first goal for Spurs just 10 days later in the UEFA Europa League group stage game against IF Elfsborg.

He stayed with the first team and continued to get occasional match minutes before he was sidelined for the rest of the campaign with a groin injury that required surgery.

Scarlett has fully recovered and is partaking in pre-season preparations at Hotspur Way. However, his future is under threat as Frank is set to decide on his strikers.

Brentford had previously looked to sign Will Lankshear

Frank has been focused on signing at least one prolific forward this summer, a goal that will be accelerated by Alejo Véliz’s return to Rosario Central.

Dominic Solanke is set to play a vital role under the Dane, while Richarlison’s future at Spurs looks ominous following the Brazil international’s bleak injury record at Tottenham.

Scarlett will be hoping this paves the way for him to break into the team, but his chances may be scuppered by Will Lankshear.

Frank may have a soft spot for the 20-year-old after it was revealed by Football.London (8 July), that Brentford had a bid accepted for Lankshear while he was at Sheffield United.

Spurs ultimately won the race for the striker, who also scored his first goal for Tottenham last season in the Europa League before getting sent off against Galatasaray.

He spent the second half of the season on loan at West Brom before returning to N17, where Frank has been keen to assess the youngster.

The fact that the Dane has a vested interest in Lankshear and has been following his progress for years could spell bad news for Scarlett, who is likely to be on his way out of Tottenham as a result.

Lankshear better suited for Frank

Tottenham fans don’t yet fully know what to expect from Frank’s iteration of the team, though glimpses of training have already shown that set-pieces will be one of his primary focuses at Spurs.

Beyond that, the best indication of how the Lilywhites will shape up is by studying how Brentford have set up over the last few years.

Frank had adapted the Bees as they became more settled in the Premier League, but one constant has been the presence of the strikers.

Whether it was Ivan Toney or Yoane Wissa, Frank likes physically imposing centre-forwards who are both adept at goal-scoring and bringing others into play.

Lankshear’s physical stature and more traditional positioning in and around the box, as well as his heading ability, mean that the England Under-20 international is likely more suited to play Frank’s system than Scarlett.

It could be time to say goodbye.
