Brennan Johnson to be boosted by latest Tottenham transfer news
Brennan Johnson will feel a little better after an underwhelming stint on the left wing against Luton Town.
The Welshman was tried on that side by Thomas Frank during Spurs’ goalless draw against Luton at Kenilworth Road.
While he started well, he eventually fell into a spell of anonymity where he no longer impacted the game.
As a result, he most likely would have had concerns over the Dane’s reaction given the level of competition in North London. However, Johnson’s fortunes may have now shifted following the latest transfer news.

Tottenham open to hearing offers for James Maddison
Johnson will not be the only one at Spurs fretting over his future after the introduction of Mohammed Kudus.
James Maddison is another player who has let injuries define his time at the London club. As a result, Tottenham could be open to letting him leave Hotspur Way this summer.
Player | Club | Games Missed | Contract Ends |
James Maddison | Tottenham | 24 | 30 June 2028 |
Speaking to We Are Tottenham TV via YouTube (27 July), Ben Jacobs said: “What happened last season was that Maddison was in and out, he lacked fitness at times and consistency even when he was fit.
“I don’t think it’s unthinkable that they would listen to offers at the right price, but it’s not a case of trying to force him out or transfer list him, it’s not their plan that he will leave, but there could be consideration to offers at the right price.”
While Johnson will certainly be disappointed to see his teammate leave, he could love the implications for his future. If Maddison departs, there is a good chance that Kudus is deployed in the midfield, which leaves less competition on the right wing.
Wilson Odobert is promising, but he still lacks experience, and Dejan Kulusevski is not expected to return in time for the start of the season. This would give Johnson enough time to lock down his starting spot on the right.
Johnson is a useful player to have
Fans want to see players who get them off their feet using technical and physical brilliance. Johnson is not considered to be one of these players.
However, that does not mean he is not of use. His positional awareness and thirst for goals is second to none and it was this skill which helped win Spurs the UEFA Europa League.
His profile despite being unexciting in many aspects is a dying breed in football. And when Tottenham are a goal down in a crucial game, Brennan is the type of player that is substituted on.
Therefore, the Welshman deserves a little more credit for all he brings to the London club.
