Stuart Lewis 'leaves the door ajar' for Tottenham return after Ipswich Town switch
Stuart Lewis could still return to Tottenham despite leaving for Ipswich Town.
That is the verdict from John Wenham, who initially reported on the 38-year-old's departure.
The academy figure has been with the North London club since 2015 but is now set to link up with the newly-promoted Premier League side.
Tottenham News shared the news that Lewis was going to move from his role with the Lilywhites.
Spurs later confirmed the news, and sent their wishes to the coach in an official announcement.
The door may still be ajar for a comeback, though, after what has been seen.
Why could Stuart Lewis come back to Tottenham?
With his intimate knowledge of the youth system in N17, Wenham believes that a comeback is possible for the boyhood supporter, after witnessing his success already.
He also shared that his father, Allan Lewis, who is also an academy coach, is set to continue in his role with Roberto De Zerbi's side.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I announced that Stuart Lewis is to leave the club to join Ipswich Town.
“Stuart would be working with the first team, a former Under-18s coach who had very huge amounts of success with Tottenham.
“I think the role at Ipswich is a step up to work immediately with the first team, obviously in there with Gary O’Neill.
“Stuart has been an outstanding coach for Tottenham for a number of years, highly respected by everyone at the club and just feels he needs that step up.
"Hopefully, that leaves the door ajar for him to return in the future, to return to Tottenham in some sort of other capacity.
"I know his dad is going to continue working for the club.”
What is Lewis' history with Tottenham?
Lewis was an academy player with Tottenham, and eventually earned a first professional contract after signing in 2004, but did not make a debut.
He initially joined the Lilywhites as part-time coach, before progressing to become Under-16s coach in 2019.
He was appointed as Under-18s coach in 2021, then won the Premier League Cup double with that side and the under-17's in 2023.
Lewis done it again with the latter in 2025, and was promoted to First Team Academy Transition Coach for the 2025-26 season to try and help young players get into the senior side.
