Ange Postecoglou could be the one heading for the Championship instead of Tottenham Hotspur after the Lilywhites escaped Premier League relegation.

Daniel Levy made the decision to get rid of the Aussie last summer, just weeks after he guided Spurs to a Europa League trophy.

The call was very controversial, as after Levy appointed Thomas Frank, he departed the club before his managerial choice was then sacked himself after just eight months in charge.

The Lewis family then made the decision to appoint Igor Tudor as interim boss, before Roberto De Zerbi's arrival saved Spurs from what looked like an inevitable relegation.

Postecoglou's Tottenham sacking will always be a sensitive subject for some fans, and now they will be surprised to see him linked with the Burnley job.

Postecoglou landed his first role after the Spurs job just three months after departing N17.

He was appointed Nottingham Forest head coach, and after a winless run of eight games, he was relieved of his duties.

During that time, the 60-year-old went on an iconic rant about how he felt let down by Tottenham's decision to sack him, as most Spurs fans won't judge him on his failures at the City Ground.

Now, he could be managing in the Championship with Burnley 12 months after winning a European tournament, with one major bookmaker having his odds set at 6/1.

Postecoglou is the fourth favourite, with former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane in third with odds of 5/1, as Cardiff City head coach Brian Barry-Murphy has odds of 4/1.

Steven Gerrard is the sole favourite at 2/1, but it's important to note that one major bookmaker had Postecoglou's odds for the Burnley job at 33/1 just over a month ago.

Are there parallels between Roberto De Zerbi and Postecoglou?

De Zerbi already seems to have the Spurs fans onboard with most supporters just looking forward to next season now.

However, the Italian hasn't had any major success at either of his last two clubs in Brighton and Marseille, which may question his long-term abilities.

There are, though, some similarities in the way that he and Postecoglou like to play football, and that's the style of play.

Postecoglou's daring playstyle is what brought silverware back to N17, and it's what will be needed moving forward under De Zerbi.

It's the type of football that keeps Spurs fans on their toes, as next season has plenty more untold narratives to tell.
