Yang Min-hyeok ‘explosion’ emerges away from Tottenham after recent agreement

Tottenham appear to have a star on their hands after what has happened with Yang Min-hyeok.

Yang will be keen to emulate the impact fellow South Korean Son Heung-min has made at Tottenham, with the teenager signing a six-year contract in North London in July 2024, before finishing his domestic campaign with Gangwon FC.

The winger officially joined up with Tottenham in December, before Ange Postecoglou decided the 19-year-old would benefit from regular game time and sent him on loan to QPR for the rest of the season.

With Son set to remain at Spurs at least another year, Tottenham will be hoping the skipper could act as a mentor as Yang continues to adapt to life in the capital.

Yang’s shirt sales through the roof at QPR

Daniel Levy’s decision to bring Yang to the club will no doubt have been partly financial, having seen the level of fandom and interest that Son’s time in North London has brought from South Korean fans.

Therefore, the Spurs supremo will no doubt be licking his lips after the Daily Mail reported on Monday (19 May, page 11) that QPR have sold more shirts with Yang’s name on them than any other player.

This immense interest can be credited to an “explosion of interest from South Korea fans”, as the 19-year-old only arrived at the end of January and made eight starts, scoring twice all season.

While Levy may be focusing on the figures, as the Tottenham chairman often is, Spurs will be focusing on Yang’s performances, which have been encouraging given it’s the young player’s first season in England.

Much like his compatriot, he has an abundance of pace and trickery and can play anywhere across the front line, although he has generally been deployed on the right side of midfield.

Yang’s development another sign of Tottenham’s future

Yang joins a growing contingent of young attacking players making a breakthrough at Spurs, such as Wilson Odobert, and academy graduate Mikey Moore.

Ahead of an equally youthful core of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, who have already made a telling impact on the first team, Spurs could quickly develop into a very dynamic and exciting side to watch.

Yang’s priority will be to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League, but he could become a valuable asset should he follow in his captain’s footsteps.
