Xavi Simons splits opinion as Tottenham fans react to new Thomas Frank reveal
Tottenham may only have one striker available heading into an important two-game week before the October international break.
Tottenham take on Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League on Tuesday, with changes expected.
Randal Kolo Muani and Dominic Solanke have suffered with injury at the start of this campaign, with the former yet to make his debut.
Thomas Frank will be hoping his side bounces back after Tottenham were frustrated in a 1-1 draw with Wolves.
One player who has been the centre of attention online from the game is Xavi Simons.

Xavi Simons’ touch and passes against Wolves dissapointed Spurs fans
Simons is in a tricky spot at Tottenham as Frank is still trying to work out what role he prefers the Dutchman in, saying he doesn’t know his best position.
Simons looked to have hit the ground running when he grabbed an assist in Spurs’ 3-0 drubbing of West Ham, but fans haven’t had too much to rave about from him since.
Spurs fans on X:
- @WillPritchardG7 – “His touch was off and was misplacing basic passes.”
- @TelOdell – “He is inconsistent; he will have days like that. There is talent there, though.”
- @dean_j_baker – “Drove me insane the commentary almost mocking him when you could see he is a player trying to hurt the opponents instead of looking to pass backwards or sideways”
Frank also has the likes of Wilson Odobert, Mathys Tel, and Brennan Johnson all available to use at left wing, as Lucas Bergvall continues to take up the number 10 spot.
Simons has shown moments, but has struggled to gain consistency this season. But has he been able to keep consistency over a full season elsewhere?

Xavi Simons has always had consistent seasons in his career so far
Simons was brought to Spurs for a reported fee of around £50m, so fans have every right to demand a lot from the attacker.
Tottenham have previously spent big on attackers who haven’t necessarily worked out, and will be hoping it’s not a repeated scenario with Simons.
Games | Goals | Assists |
33 | 11 | 8 |
The good news is that Simons is relatively consistent throughout the course of a season. The Premier League is one of the hardest leagues in the world to adapt to, and with time, Simons will be able to flourish.
