Worries emerge over Thomas Frank confusion at Tottenham
Thomas Frank’s ability to adapt to the move from Brentford to Tottenham is causing concern for Alan Pardew after what he’s seen from the team.
Tottenham were beaten 1-0 at home by Chelsea after a toothless performance on Saturday to make it just three wins in the previous 10 across all competitions.
Further negative headlines arose after full time after Frank was snubbed by Djed Spence and Micky van de Ven coming off the pitch.
Despite still sitting fifth in the Premier League table on 17 points the manner of the performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has ex-Newcastle and West Ham boss Pardew worried, from his own experience of making a step up in the size of club he managed.
Tottenham create nothing against Chelsea to concern Alan Pardew
Pardew feels the Dane may be feeling caught between sticking to his own principles of how to get his team playing and potential pressure at knowing he needs to fit a perceived Tottenham style.
Speaking live on talkSPORT the former Charlton and Crystal Palace manager said: “Thomas Frank, coming from Brentford, and talking about myself coming from Reading to West Ham, knowing there’s a tradition, knowing you’ve got to play a little bit.
“I just worry if his transition from that club and playing style to Spurs where he’s under a little bit of pressure to play a more open, more attacking type of game has just got him confused a little bit in terms of what the team should be doing.”

Thomas Frank obliged to be the anti-Ange Postecoglou
It can’t be overlooked that Frank is dealing with significant injury issues within his squad and still has Spurs in a decent league position.
But after a bright start to this tenure results have been inconsistent and losing to Chelsea without ever really threatening to get back into the game after Joao Pedro’s opener is concerning.
While his Brentford side last year was an impressive attacking unit featuring the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa and Kevin Schade that was after years of putting his preferences into place in West London.
And while the solid defensiveness of his current Spurs side, at the expense of anything much at all going forward, is hardly going to get fans off their seats he did arrive at the club in place of Ange Postecoglou who was infamous for playing to the other extreme, and while the Australian broke the club’s long-standing trophy drought with the Europa League win it didn’t save his job.
