West Ham United new manager: Ex-Tottenham star clear favourite after sack latest

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United were intertwined for what felt like the entire Premier League season.

Spurs had the early upper hand, winning 3-0 at the London Stadium as the Hammers went on to replace Graham Potter with Nuno Espirito Santo.

That would change things in the relegation race, with West Ham winning 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the reverse fixture.

As expected, that really kick-started the nerves that Tottenham could actually drop to the Championship, but thankfully, West Ham took that honour on the final day.

Despite the Irons beating Leeds 3-0, Spurs’ win over Everton in north London was enough to keep their Premier League status for another year.

Now, all the talk is surrounding new managers.

Tottenham favourite could get West Ham job

The appointment of Roberto De Zerbi was a masterstroke by the Lilywhites, and they can rest knowing the Italian will take them forward next season.

It’s not the same at West Ham.

Nuno has already held crisis talks with the board and is expected to be sacked in the next 48 hours, as the claret and blue look to bounce back to the Premier League immediately.

But it appears that Spurs and West Ham will remain interlinked, even if they are playing in different divisions from next season.

According to major bookmakers, former midfielder Scott Parker, who actually moved to White Hart Lane from Upton Park in his playing career, is the clear favourite to take over the Irons.

According to major bookmakers, Parker is 4/5 to take over at the London Stadium.

Other names said to be in the running are Slaven Bilic, Gary O’Neil, Craig Bellamy and somehow, Ruben Amorim, despite his last job being at Manchester United.

What’s next for Tottenham?

Spurs could so easily have been in the position of West Ham.

De Zerbi did admit he would stay even if Tottenham were relegated to the Championship, but you never know if that would be the case unless it happened.

Thankfully, we don’t have to think about that possibility.

Instead, Spurs now have all eyes on the Premier League, and they must stop the embarrassing trend of finishing 17th, with this year the second consecutive season it has happened.

It’s embarrassing, and the Lewis family simply have to back De Zerbi with as much transfer backing as they have, or they’ll never buck the trend.
