West Ham make offer to Tottenham target as transfer complication arises
Tottenham are preparing a large overhaul to the squad after demonstrating an inability to compete across multiple competitions.
An unprecedented injury crisis has meant that Ange Postecoglou has had to juggle his squad between competitions, often sacrificing league games in favour of cup competitions.
The potential added intensity of Champions League football next season would add further strain to the brittle, young squad.
Daniel Levy has already made moves to secure the services of young prospects, but will soon be forced to focus on bringing in recognised senior players.

West Ham make offer for Angel Gomes
Tottenham have had Angel Gomes on their radar for a considerable amount of time and were hoping to swoop in for his signature as he contract is due to expire with Lille this summer.
The Manchester United graduate has impressed since signing for the Ligue 1 outfit in 2020, showcasing his technical qualities across a variety of midfield and forward positions.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Ligue 1 | 14 | 1 | 1 |
| Champions League Qualifiers | 2 | – | – |
| Champions League | 4 | 1 |
Various setbacks limiting his appearances this season have not detracted from Tottenham’s will to bring him to North London, though the deal has hit a potential snag.
As per the Sunday Mirror’s print edition (18 May, page 68), Premier League rivals West Ham have already approached the England international with an offer.
It is also reported that Marseille have joined the race for his signature and are determined to present Gomes with the chance to stay in France.
The highly sought-after midfielder is keen to assess all his options before making a final decision.

Gomes could be crucial cog at Spurs
Postecoglou’s biggest challenge in squad selection at Tottenham has been in the centre of the park, which has never looked completely settled.
The midfield trio of James Maddison, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma started so promisingly, yet it was disbanded almost as soon as it was formed due to a combination of injuries and loss of form.
Since then, Bentancur and Bergvall have been given much more prominent roles, but all have had spells out of the team and none of the above have truly made claim to the number six position.
The signing of Gomes would change that as his ability to operate in tight spaces and passing range would best suit the anchor role and could maximise other members of the squad’s more attacking qualities to better effect, leading to a better overall balance.
