Wayne Rooney already loves something he’s seen from Thomas Frank at Tottenham
Tottenham are on the verge of beginning their first Premier League campaign with Thomas Frank in charge.
Frank agonisingly missed out on a chance to bring more European silverware to North London, as Spurs surrendered a two-goal lead before eventually losing out on penalties to PSG in the UEFA Super Cup.
The Danish manager now must pick himself up and turn his attention to Spurs‘ opening-day fixture with Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Despite the defeat in Italy, Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has already spotted something he likes from Tottenham’s new manager.
Rooney impressed with Spurs set-piece presence
Daniel Levy came under excruciating criticism after deciding to sack Ange Postecoglou following the Lilywhites’ triumph in the Europa League.
Whether this decision proves to be the right one remains to be seen, but Rooney has already been encouraged after what he has seen Frank implement so far.
Whilst on punditry duties for Match of the Day on Wednesday evening, Rooney described Tottenham’s approach to set-pieces as “refreshing”, with Frank’s side causing PSG multiple issues in this department.
“It was really refreshing to see that in a big game,” Rooney said.
“It’s doing the basics right, … I thought set-plays were excellent for Tottenham tonight and that’s the reason they went 2-0 up.”

Exciting times ahead for Spurs
Despite the disappointing capitulation that saw the Lilywhites concede two goals late on, there have been some positive takeaways from Frank’s first competitive game in charge.
If Spurs can secure the signatures of Eberechi Eze and Savinho, then the Dane’s job in N17 will only become easier.
It can hardly get worse for Tottenham in the Premier League after they finished 17th last season, but Frank will be hoping he can get Spurs to be competing for a spot in the Champions League.
