Van de Ven reacts as Tottenham announce contract extension for defender
Tottenham are focused on maintaining their core group of players ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
As the dust settles on Ange Postecoglou’s departure, Tottenham will be keen to retain their biggest stars as they look towards next season.
Spurs players were loyal to Postecoglou, with the dressing room reportedly furious about his dismissal.
Thomas Frank, the firm favourite to take over the mantle at Spurs, will be keen to avoid an exodus before his arrival. Therefore, he will be delighted to know that the Lilywhites have secured the future of one of their key defenders.

Tottenham extend Ben Davies’ contract until 2026
Tottenham officially announced the release of three senior players on Saturday, 31 May. However, there was no mention of Ben Davies on the list, despite his contract initially being set to expire this summer.
Clarity has now been provided, with Tottenham announcing on Sunday (8 June) that they have exercised their option to extend Davies’ contract by one year, which will see the defender remain at Hotspur Way until 2026.
It will come as welcome news for the Welshman, who is the Lilywhites’ longest-serving player, having joined the club from Swansea City in July 2014.
Competition | Appearances | Minutes Played |
Premier League | 17 | 1,330′ |
Europa League | 8 | 636′ |
Carabao Cup | 3 | 210′ |
Davies has seen his role shift to more of a rotational squad player in the last few years. However, his versatility means he remains a valuable asset to Tottenham.
The 32-year-old is also cherished for his character and remains a popular figure with the playing squad, with Micky Van de Ven quick to like the club’s post announcing his extension.
Davies’ influence key for new manager
Tottenham saw a huge overhaul to the squad during Postecoglou’s two years in charge, which has left the Londoners short on experience.
Young players have been the predominant focus of Spurs’ transfer policy, which increases the importance of having experienced players like club captain Son Heung-Min and Davies around.
Davies has made over 350 appearances for Spurs and has been praised by every former coach for his excellent work ethic and attitude, which will aid any incoming manager’s transition.
