UEFA make Romero announcement after what happened in Tottenham v Man United

Cristian Romero was the focus of a fresh announcement after Tottenham won the Europa League.

Tottenham’s long wait for a trophy ended in Bilbao last night, with Brennan Johnson scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win over Man United to bring the Europa League title to North London.

After what has been a dismal domestic campaign, it was vital that Spurs ended the season with success, and they managed just that.

Ange Postecoglou’s future seems even more unclear now after the win, and the same can be said for Romero, who was mentioned in a UEFA announcement after the game.

Romero named as official Player of the Match

Romero has been crucial for Tottenham this season when fit, and it was no different for their clash with the Red Devils in Bilbao.

United may have dominated the game, but the strong defensive shape of Tottenham afforded them very few clear-cut chances.

As a result of his defensive display, UEFA announced that the Argentine was the official Player of the Match, and very few will argue against the decision.

With Champions League football now secured, Tottenham will want to do everything they can to keep Romero at the club, and the win may have just provided them with a huge boost in doing so.

Tottenham have something to build from next season

In the Premier League, Tottenham have been woeful, but their run in the Europa League served as a showcase of how good these players can be.

Now, the objective will be to replicate that European success domestically next season, and whether Postecoglou will be the man tasked with that is yet to be seen.

It was claimed a few weeks ago that Postecoglou would face the sack regardless of the outcome, but Spurs and Daniel Levy may be having second thoughts about that now.

However, for now, Tottenham will be basking in the glory of their Europa League success and will want to end the season with a win in their final Premier League game this weekend.
