UEFA make Guglielmo Vicario announcement after what he did in Tottenham draw vs Monaco

Tottenham battled to a 0-0 draw against Monaco on Wednesday to maintain their unbeaten start to the Champions League this season.

Guglielmo Vicario single-handedly earned Tottenham a point in the south of France, making a string of impressive saves at crucial moments.

Thomas Frank has come under scrutiny for Spurs’ weak display, with Vicario one of the few to leave the pitch with his head held high on 22 October.

Following his brilliant performance, UEFA has made an announcement regarding the Italian goalkeeper.

Guglielmo Vicario makes Champions League team of the week

Vicario has faced criticism at Spurs for perceived weakness when it comes to claiming the ball from crosses or set-piece situations.

However, when it comes to his shot-stopping abilities, there are few in the world who are better than the 29-year-old.

After the most recent Champions League matches, Vicario was named in the Champions League Team of the Week, confirmed by UEFA.

Having joined Tottenham from Empoli in June 2023, Vicario has begun his third season in England with several good performances.

Against Bournemouth and Villarreal, he produced several brilliant saves, vindicating the decision to keep him in North London.

Whilst there are some areas of his game that he can improve, such as his distribution, Vicario has once again shown why he is more than capable of being Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper.

The match against Monaco left fans unhappy with their inability to create chances, and it’s clear that Frank needs to address several issues within his squad.

Guglielmo Vicario’s heroics show that a goalkeeper signing isn’t a priority for Spurs

Vicario was never going to leave Tottenham in the summer transfer window, with Alfie Whiteman’s departure sealing his future in N17.

Spurs focused on other positions, such as signing Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus to bolster their attack, spending big money in the process.

However, Simons is yet to showcase his potential in a Tottenham shirt, and questions are being asked over whether they need more firepower in attack.

Tottenham have been incredibly unlucky with injuries; however, Frank is yet to find a sustainable solution to their inability to create chances.

What’s clear is that Vicario can continue to play a huge part in Tottenham’s season, despite their problems in other areas of the pitch.
