UEFA asked to apologise over ‘disgusting’ Tottenham tweet ahead of Bodo/Glimt tie
Tottenham’s season is in the balance as they must navigate past a tricky Bodo/Glimt side in Norway to progress to the Europa League final.
Tottenham travel to Bodo as favourites with a two-goal lead to defend, but such has been their unpredictability this season that they are far from guaranteed an all-important spot in the final in Bilbao.
With Ange Postecoglou’s future hinging on this result, all eyes will be on the Australian as he selects his side for this season-defining contest.
Postecoglou will be ruing the recent loss of James Maddison to injury. However, the squad at his disposal should still be able to handle the occasion.

UEFA instigates anger with Maddison tweet
UEFA has already been in the spotlight around this fixture. However, this time their actions were far more controversial as they clumsily posted an ill-fated tweet ahead of Thursday’s (8 May) fixture against Bodo.
Promoting the upcoming tie, the official Europa League account on X posted a picture of Maddison winking and giving a thumbs up to the camera, seemingly unaware of his injury situation.
They later removed it, but not before it was noticed by thousands of Spurs fans, sparking outrage.
The fact that Tottenham have endured an unprecedented injury crisis this season, and are left particularly short in midfield with Lucas Bergvall also sidelined, meant that fans took particular exception to this development.
One fumed it was a “disgusting tweet” by the football governing body, while another called for an apology.
Maddison void must be filled
The loss of Maddison will be a bitter blow as he has arguably been Tottenham’s best performer in Europe this season.
Player | Europa League Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Dominic Solanke | 11 | 4 | 4 |
James Maddison | 12 | 3 | 4 |
Brennan Johnson | 11 | 4 | 1 |
Heung-min Son | 9 | 3 | 1 |
Dejan Kulusevski | 10 | 1 | 2 |
He is only behind Solanke in direct goal contributions, with three goals and four assists to his name, notably scoring important goals in the knockout stages against Frankfurt and Bodo.
Beyond that, he has been instrumental as the link between team’s defence with the front line, and is a trusted leader within the squad.
With Bergvall’s absence also sorely missed, the burden will likely fall to Kulusevski to recapture his early-season form and make sure he can fill the void left behind in midfield.
