Troy Deeney picks out Djed Spence after what he has seen at Tottenham

Troy Deeney has named his standout Tottenham players this season in his latest Team of the Week.

Tottenham made it three wins from their last three Premier League games with a 4-1 victory against Ipswich Town on Saturday (22 February).

Deeney picks out Djed Spence

There is no hiding from the fact that it has been a tough season for Spurs this term and sitting 12th in the Premier League, simply isn’t up to expectations in North London.

Saying that Ange Postecoglou hasn’t always had the easiest of circumstances, with plenty of injuries throughout the first-team squad which has led to his team selection being limited at times.

As a result, the Australian has turned to several younger players throughout the campaign who he hoped, despite being less experienced, may have the desire to get minutes and show what they can do.

Writing in his BBC Sport Team of the Week column, Deeney said: “He scored a deflected shot against Ipswich but it’s more for the weeks of being so consistent when that Spurs team were struggling and loads of players were out.

“Him and Archie Gray were the two that stood out consistently.”

Ange Postecoglu needs to use the talent available to him at Tottenham

Although their form has improved of late, there is still plenty of work to be done at Spurs this season to show an extended period of improvement.

In the meantime, there is still plenty of speculation surrounding the future of Postecoglou who has struggled to live up to the expected levels.

With the manager reinforcing the idea that he always wins a trophy in his second season with a club, the pressure is on in North London to deliver this term and with only the Europa League left to play for, that could be a tall order.

However, there is a perfect chance here for Postecoglou to make use of the talent he does have throughout his squad and give the less experienced players the opportunities to continue impressing in the first team, creating a new era at Tottenham.

Dane Scarlett was subject to plenty of praise after the win over Ipswich for what he contributed and supporters have urged the boss to use him more going forward.

At this stage in the campaign, there is nothing to lose for the boss, so why shouldn’t he go all out?
