Troy Deeney intervenes after Rory Jennings mocks Tottenham fan over Chelsea
Troy Deeney was left having to intervene live on talkSPORT after Rory Jennings mocked a Tottenham fan over what he said about Chelsea.
Tottenham made it three Premier League wins in a row with a 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday (22 February).
However, Spurs supporters will no doubt be eager to see a prolonged period of improved form from their side before getting ahead of themselves about changing fortunes this term.

Jennings highlights Tottenham problem
Three victories in a row is no easy task in the Premier League so Tottenham can certainly feel pleased with their upturn in league form.
However, a thrashing of an Ipswich side fighting relegation as well as a victory over a struggling Manchester United does somewhat water down the magnitude of the results despite only being able to beat what’s in front of you.
Nevertheless, with some more difficult fixtures ahead including Manchester City, Bournemouth, Fulham and Chelsea, this could be a real test of how far the Lilywhites have come in recent weeks.
This view was echoed by a Tottenham fan who rung into talkSPORT on Saturday (22 February) and argued that although pleased with his side’s victory, he would not be satisfied that change is long-term until they beat Chelsea.
Jennings, a Blues fan, was quick to take aim at the caller as he replied: “You’ve got to have obtainable goals.”
The Tottenham supporter claimed it is an obtainable goal if Ange Postecoglou can put together the right team to perform.
However, Jennings pointed out: “You’ve got to come to Stamford Bridge. You went 26 years without winning there.”
Before any further punches could be thrown, Deeney interjected and said: “Right lads, I appreciate your chat but it is half-time at Villa Park” before throwing over to the reporter at the game.

Tottenham need to prove they are an improved side
Spurs certainly seem to be heading in the right direction and that’s exactly what the supporters at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have been longing to see from their side.
However, the upcoming games aren’t easy and the Lilywhites will have to ensure they keep to the highest standards in order to come away with the results they want.
Fixture | Result |
Chelsea v Tottenham – 2 May 2024 | 2-0 |
Chelsea v Tottenham – 14 August 2022 | 2-2 |
Chelsea v Tottenham – 23 January 2022 | 2-0 |
Chelsea v Tottenham – 29 November 2020 | 0-0 |
Chelsea v Tottenham – 22 February 2020 | 2-1 |
You can see why the Tottenham supporter is holding the Chelsea game in higher esteem but looking at their recent record away at Stamford Bridge, as Jennings suggests, this may not be the best fixture to pin any hopes on.
With the likes of Manchester City and Bournemouth also in the immediate path, surely a victory over either of those sides would also suggest a more convincing period of form is to come.
Instead of focusing on the individual fixtures, Spurs should be considering how many points they want to come away with realistically from the next group of games and break it down.
Putting too much pressure on one fixture or looking towards one game could easily send the pressure piling up again in North London.
Ange Postecoglou has seen his role discussed plenty this term and will surely want attention to return to on-the-pitch matters.
