Tottenham vs Wolves kick-off moved to strange time after UEFA development

Tottenham will be hoping to continue their bright start to the new Premier League season after the international break.

The Lilywhites won their opening two league clashes before falling to a disappointing defeat to Bournemouth on home turf last weekend.

Tottenham turned in a frustrating display against the Cherries, which was concerningly reminiscent of some of their performances from last season.

Thomas Frank’s men will be desperate to put that loss right in their next home outing in the Premier League, but they will now have to wait a little while longer after this development.

Tottenham vs Wolves to kick-off at 8pm on a Saturday night

Tottenham’s return to the Champions League has been eagerly anticipated, and they learned their fixtures for their new European campaign at the end of last week.

The N17 outfit will welcome Villarreal in their opening clash of the league phase, and that date is then followed up by a trip to Norway to take on Bodo/Glimt, who they beat in last year’s Europa League semi-final.

However, that fixture has now caused plenty of problems, after UEFA confirmed that it will be played on Tuesday 30 September.

That decision has prompted Spurs to move the Premier League match against Wolves to an 8pm kick-off on Saturday 27 September, a hugely unfamiliar kick-off time in English football.

The midweek Carabao Cup tie against Doncaster Rovers on 24 September is also likely to have contributed towards the switch, with a Wednesday night to Saturday afternoon turnaround fairly unforgiving, as the alternative of Sunday afternoon to Tuesday night would have been.

Instead, Spurs will take on Wolves on a Saturday night, in what will be a fairly bizarre and unwelcome experience for both sets of fans.

Spurs have a great chance to build momentum at home

Games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be crucial for Frank and his men this season, as a strong home record could hold the key to a potential rise up the table.

The Lilywhites have one win and one loss from their two league games in N17 this term, but they have a fantastic opportunity to build momentum on home turf in the coming weeks.

Tottenham’s next five home games in all competitions.

They will be expected to win the clash with Villarreal, and that is then followed up by games against Doncaster, Wolves and Aston Villa, with the latter duo currently rooted to the bottom of the table.

That run of games may span multiple competitions, but the key to a good home record is being consistent and relentless, and Spurs could start to instil those habits throughout that run.

A huge London derby against Chelsea follows that upcoming spell, so there is no better time for Frank’s charges to begin making their home ground a fortress once again.
