Tottenham v Frankfurt: Major player ruled out days before Europa League tie

Tottenham host Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final tie on Thursday.

Having sunk to 14th place in the Premier League, winning the Europa League is Spurs’ only chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season and getting their hands on a trophy.

Tottenham will be determined to make progress in that direction when Frankfurt visit North London on 10 April, with the second leg scheduled to take place in Germany on 17 April.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are on a poor run of form, having failed to win five of their last seven games, but will take confidence from their 3-1 victory over Southampton on Sunday (6 April).

Eintracht Frankfurt without Kevin Trapp v Tottenham

Tottenham have received a major boost ahead of their clash with Frankfurt as the Bundesliga club are set to be without first-choice goalkeeper Kevin Trapp for the first leg.

Trapp has momentarily been replaced by Jens Grahl in the Frankfurt squad for Thursday’s trip to North London, according to Carsten Schellhorn.

The German journalist reported via his personal X handle on Monday (7 April) that the arrangement only applies for the first leg, as Trapp could return for the return leg in Frankfurt.

It is worth noting that the Germany international has missed Frankfurt’s last four games across all competitions due to a knee injury.

He has not been able to recover from the injury yet, meaning he will not be a part of the travelling squad to England this week.

Spurs to take advantage of Frankfurt woes

Grahl has not played for Frankfurt this season and has only featured in their matchday squad eight times across all competitions.

Therefore, the 36-year-old is unlikely to play against Tottenham on Thursday. Kaua Santos is set to act as Frankfurt’s custodian in goal in Trapp’s absence this week, having already done so 11 times this term.

The Brazilian will be hopeful of holding the fort and helping Frankfurt cause an upset over Spurs when they travel to North London on Thursday.
