Tottenham transfer news as ‘Huge’ offer needed to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze – Fabrizio Romano
Tottenham will need to make a “huge” offer to Crystal Palace to have any chance of signing Eberechi Eze, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian transfer guru, taking to his CaugtOffside substack column (19 August) shares that he doesn’t see the Eagles selling the English midfielder this summer and only a “huge” bid could change the situation.
Tottenham reporter Alasdair Gold of Football London reported on 9 August that those within the North London camp are continuing to monitor the situation of Eze after his impressive individual performances last year.

Romano adds that Spurs appreciate the player but their interest is unlikely to amount to anything.
He said: “Honestly, I don’t see Crystal Palace selling Eberechi Eze this summer. Tottenham Hotspur really appreciate the player but there’s nothing in it at the moment.
“I don’t expect that to change because only a really huge bid could change the situation.”
More creativity welcome
For a long while Tottenham have needed midfield ingenuity and creativity, players possessing the tremendous and unique knack of winning games on their own through sublime final-third imagination both in scoring goals and creating them.
The North Londoners addressed that stark desire impressively this summer when they signed James Maddison from Leicester City for around £60m but another classy showstopper would be welcome under Ange Postecoglou’s proactive system.

Eze’s fantastic performances for the Eagles have caught the attention of some of England’s biggest clubs, and Spurs in particular could really use a player of his profile.
The 25-year-old would slot perfectly into Postecoglou’s system as an attacking eight and could thrive in the 57-year-old’s attacking high-intensity team. Across the past calendar year, Eze has put up some of the most brilliant numbers in European football.
As per FBRef, the midfielder is in the highest two percentiles for some key statistics. In comparison to his positional peers in Europe’s top five leagues, Eze was in the 99th percentile for the number of goals he scored (0.35 per 90), the number of successful take-ons he made (2.47 per 90) and the number of his successful take-ons that led to a goal (0.18 per 90).
He was also in the 98th percentile for a range of other equally impressive statistics. These included his goals and assists (0.49 per 90), his total shots (2.43 per 90) and shots on target (0.85 per 90), as well as his carries into the penalty area (0.95 per 90).
It remains to be seen how much Crystal Palace could demand from potential suitors, but it could take another fee north of £60m to sign Eze and if he continues his stunning upward trajectory this campaign, the new England international could be gracing an elite Premier League club in no time at all. Spurs should make sure it’s them.
