Tottenham told to make last-ditch deadline decision that ‘could save them £70m’
Tim Sherwood believes that Tottenham should recall Ashley Phillips from his Stoke City loan spell amid their defensive injury crisis.
Spurs have been hindered massively by the lack of availability of their defensive players this season with Micky van de Ven and Christian Romero among the long-term absentees at the London Stadium so far.
While Kevin Danso has already been added to Spurs’ ranks this winter, it wouldn’t harm anything if they added one more new face to their squad, with Marc Guehi having been linked with a big-money move.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News (3 February), Sherwood shared his thoughts on Phillips and why the youngster could end up saving Tottenham millions.
“I certainly would [look at recalling players] yes, I think that’s an option, two weeks ago it was a real crisis I would have called them back,” he said.
“Phillips is the boy they signed from Blackburn, he’s a young boy but you just never know until you put them on a stage and see if they can sign.
“This boy might be very good, might save them 50, 60, 70 million pounds on someone who’s not as good but you don’t know until you give them the opportunity.”
Tottenham need to find a way to turn things around
Now that we’re edging closer to the 11pm transfer deadline on 3 February, it feels essential that one or two new faces are brought through the London Stadium doors.
Antonin Kinksy and Danso have been Spurs’ additions so far and with Mathys Tel now also seemingly on the way to North London, the second half of the campaign is starting to look a little brighter for Postecoglou and his men.
However, although the additions of the aforementioned trio will no doubt go a long way to securing their Premier League status, it still feels like another one or two players being brought in could be the cherry on top of the cake.

Multiple areas within Tottenham’s squad need further reinforcement and if Daniel Levy can lay out a bid of around £70million for Guehi, there’s obviously plenty of money left for them to still play with.
Adding more players to their ranks means that Spurs could put themselves in an even better place than they currently find themselves.
