Tottenham to pay ‘more money’ for Lucas Bergvall as new developments emerge

Lucas Bergvall has enjoyed a fine first season at Tottenham.

Bergvall has been forced into a starting berth due to the injury crisis that has hampered Ange Postecoglou‘s side throughout the campaign.

The 19-year-old has featured 35 times for Spurs in all competitions since his move from Djurgardens in his native Sweden last summer.

However, a new revelation has been made about the transfer to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham to pay more for Bergvall deal

Djurgardens are expecting to receive more money for the Bergvall deal from Tottenham, according to the Swedish club’s CEO Henrik Berggren.

In an interview with Fotbollskanalen (7 March) after the official accounts revealed that the club made £10.6million from transfers, he said: “It’s clear that the sale of Lucas stands out.”

Confirming that the 2024 account do not include bonuses and further payment is due in the future, Berggren added: “There are no bonuses at all, no. There are only fixed amounts in the claims. So, there are more bonuses that can fall out [in Djurgardens favour] in the future as well.”

Bergvall shining despite tough Tottenham season

The campaign has been miserable for the Lilywhites, they sit 13th in the Premier League and have been eliminated from both domestic cups.

The Europa League is Spurs’ only hope of success and qualification for the Champions League but their chances of progressing to the quarter-finals are in tatters after a 1-0 loss to AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the round of 16 contest.

Bergvall has been a rare shining light in a dismal season, he has seamlessly slotted into the demands of the Premier League and the £8.5m initial deal looks like a bargain, depending on how steep the potential add-ons are.

He will need to recover from the own goal that he scored against the Dutch outfit but the majority of his performances have been impressive leading to speculation that he could leave North London.

The Swedish star could seek Champions League football in the near future if he continues his rise to stardom, although he is contracted until 2029, so Spurs have some leeway in that regard and will hope to keep him.

Postecoglou will be hoping that he can keep hold of the midfielder as he is set to become a key player for the Lilywhites if they can retain his services despite their struggles.
