Tottenham star Dominic Solanke will be gutted after major new announcement

Dominic Solanke has been brought back down to earth by a new announcement after winning the UEFA Europa League with Tottenham.

It has been an unforgettable week for Solanke, who played an essential part in Tottenham’s 1-0 victory against Manchester United in the Europa League final at the Estadio de San Mamés on Wednesday (21 May).

While the striker did not net for Spurs in the final, his off-the-ball commitment to the Europa League-winning team made all the difference on the night.

However, a recent announcement will have dented the 27-year-old’s mood as the Europa League high begins to run its course.

Solanke not called up by Thomas Tuchel for England

While enduring Tottenham’s worst-ever Premier League campaign this season, Solanke made the difference in the Europa League, netting five times in the competition, including twice in the semi-final.

However, despite achieving a major milestone at Spurs, it seems the striker will need to work harder to appease Tuchel.

Solanke was essential for Tottenham in the Europa League

The recently appointed England coach announced his latest Three Lions squad on Friday (23 May), but Solanke, fresh from winning the Europa League, missed out.

In a shock turn of events, Al-Ahli’s Ivan Toney was recalled to accompany Ollie Watkins and captain Harry Kane at the England camp.

Solanke should have been called up over Watkins

While Solanke has been inconsistent this season, he was an essential player for Tottenham in the most important part of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Watkins struggled for minutes after Marcus Rashford was loaned to Aston Villa from Manchester United, and hardly featured in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against PSG.

There is an argument to be made that Watkins’ playing style could have given him the upper-hand over Solanke. The striker is known for his versatility and can operate as both a winger and a more traditional centre-forward.

However, in a sport where merit is valued above all, Solanke deserved to have a spot in the recent England team.
