Tottenham ‘risk Richarlison howler’ nobody expected, not even Mohamed Salah can match him

Tottenham appear to have missed out on the signing of Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze to Arsenal.

Spurs accelerated their interest in signing Eze earlier in August, and it looked like they were ready to capture the Crystal Palace playmaker.

However, Arsenal have since re-entered the race to sign Eze, throwing a spanner into the works for Tottenham as a deal appears to be close to completion.

Prior to news of Arsenal’s transfer hijack, it had been reported that Spurs would be willing to offer Richarlison to Palace as part of a player-plus-cash deal.

Tottenham risk adding Richarlison to Eze deal

It has been suggested that Tottenham are willing to send Richarlison to Crystal Palace as part of a player-plus-cash deal for Eze.

That could make Palace more willing to negotiate with Spurs than with their bitter rivals.

However, it could be a risky deal on the part of the Lilywhites, considering Richarlison’s recent upturn in form.

Richarlison currently boasts the best minutes-per-goal ratio of any player to have featured across the last two Premier League seasons.

While other players like Mohamed Salah have similar records despite having played more minutes, no-one can touch the Brazilian’s record at this time.

On that basis, selling Richarlison – even if not to Crystal Palace – would be a howler of sorts.

Tottenham should tread carefully when negotiating deal for Eze

Most people in the football world agree that Eze would be a fantastic signing for Tottenham, but they need to tread carefully in their efforts to outbid Arsenal.

Throwing Richarlison into the mix might catch Crystal Palace’s attention, but that could prove to be an error in the long-term.

Tottenham’s interest in Eze increased once James Maddison left them short with options in attack. If Richarlison leaves, they could find themselves lacking options again, albeit in a different area of the pitch.

Richarlison hasn’t been short of criticism at Tottenham, but there are signs he could regain his peak form under Thomas Frank. Could Frank want to keep exploring the Brazilian’s potential?

Another huge factor threatening to ruin this deal is that Richarlison might not want to join Crystal Palace. The Brazilian might see it as a step down, even if the Eagles finished above Spurs last season.
