Tottenham ‘really like’ Conor Gallagher as Alasdair Gold shares transfer priorities

Tottenham are admirers of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, who could play a part in Ange Postecoglou’s new-look Spurs midfield, according to Alasdair Gold.

Gold shared via his Youtube channel that Tottenham “really like” Gallagher, and he could feature in Postecoglou’s central three as a box-to-box midfielder, as the club look to strengthen the midfield with an attack-minded midfielder as one of their priorities.

The England international is seen as a possible replacement for Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, who has interest from Champions League clubs next season and could be allowed to leave, while he could also offer an alternative to Bissouma, Bentancur or new-arrival James Maddison in the midfield.

It was also shared that Gallagher could come in due to Spurs needing to sign some homegrown talents as they can’t afford to neglect that part of the squad.

Speaking via his youtube channel, Gold shared: “The first main objective for Spurs in the transfer window is priority targets. Priority targets for this transfer window are a goalkeeper, two centre-backs, a central attacking midfielder and a young winger.

“I know that they really like Conor Gallagher. He’s a young talented player with a lot of room to develop and grow which is a classic Spurs thing, and they also need to bring in some homegrown players.”

Fantastic.

While he may not have had the best of years in what was a turbulent season for Chelsea, Gallagher’s talent is clear and his time playing under Patrick Vieira proved he can be effective when played as a box-to-box or attacking midfielder.

Gallagher could be a player in the mould of somebody like Reo Hatate or Aaron Mooy at Celtic, who provided energy in the midfield as well as an effective end product in and around the opposition’s penalty area.

During his time at Crystal Palace, Gallagher contributed to eight goals and three assists from midfield [Transfermarkt], and his energy provided Palace with a base on which to build their attack. His presence was missed under Vieira at Selhurst Park and may have played a role in Vieira’s drop-off in results and eventual dismissal.

If Spurs decide to follow up their interest in their rival’s academy product, he would fit into Postecoglou’s system brilliantly and can play a number of roles in that side, as well as being one of the home-grown players they seem to desire this summer.

In other Tottenham news, Paul Robinson has claimed that Postecoglou could replicate his Celtic success at Spurs
