Tottenham police warning issued ahead of Tamworth FA Cup tie

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been told to enjoy Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie at non-league Tamworth “responsibly” by West Midlands Police.

Birmingham Live reported on 10 January that local police have urged fans of both clubs to enjoy themselves in a safe and sensible manner ahead of by far the biggest game in Tamworth’s history.

The National League side have never hosted Premier League opposition before, but are expecting a large contingent of travelling Spurs fans after beating Huddersfield Town in the second round.

West Midlands Police PC Rich Lymer told Birmingham Live: “This weekend is going to be a special occasion for so many people living locally.

“Officers will be visible around Tamworth and the Lamb Ground when they take on one of the Premier League elites.

“We’re here to respond to any concerns people may have – please allow for extra time travelling in and around the area this weekend.”

Ange Postecoglou’s side looking to avoid unwanted history

While Spurs will be honoured to become the first Premier League side to play away at Tamworth, they’ll be cautious to ensure they come away from the Lamb Ground with their fourth-round place in the bag.

Ange Postecoglou, having previously said he “always” wins silverware in his second season at a club, will see this potential mismatch as the perfect opportunity to launch another cup run in 2025.

The Lilywhites come into the game off the back of beating Liverpool 1-0 in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, but success in that competition certainly doesn’t mean they’ll take the FA Cup lightly.

Though the return leg at Anfield isn’t for another month, the Australian will be wise to avoid an upset which could pile the pressure back onto him, and it remains to be seen how many changes he’ll make.

Despite Spurs having a hugely injury-hit squad, Postecoglou is still likely to test out his depth, and the side he picks could be a sign to the travelling Lilywhites fans that he’s crying out for January signings.

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou has the arrival of a £15million “generational” talent to look forward to in North London.
