Tottenham player sends emotional farewell message as Chelsea deal finalised
Tottenham Women have seen a significant overhaul this summer ahead of the new Women’s Super League season.
Crystal Palace Women’s difficulties last season were the only thing that saved the Lilywhites from being relegated as they finished just one place above the bottom of the table in 11th.
Daniel Levy decided that a revamp was necessary, and has sprung into action this month as Tōko Koga became Tottenham Women’s first summer signing (2 July).
This was followed up two days later by the Spurs chairman’s decision to officially appoint Martin Ho as the new manager at Hotspur Way, penning the 35-year-old to a three-year contract.
With the new manager in place, more work can be done on constructing the squad, and the Englishman has wasted no time in greenlighting a departure.

Becky Spencer posts emotional message after joining Chelsea
Becky Spencer left Tottenham to join Chelsea on a permanent deal (7 July) after six years of donning the Spurs colours.
The Jamaica international spent the final three months on loan with the Blues after losing her place in the Spurs team to January arrival Lize Kop.
With fellow goalkeeper Eleanor Heeps signing a new contract earlier this year, Spencer decided to leap on the opportunity to join the Blues on a one-year deal with the option of extending it to 2027.
The shotstopper took to Instagram (7 July) to post an emotional message along with a reel of her highlights in North London.
The message stated, “The last 6yrs at this club has been a journey with many lessons learnt. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and playing with some fantastic humans past and present, so for that I’ll always be thankful.
“Some of the fans have been amazing and stuck by me and this team for many years and it has always been appreciated so thank you.”
The 34-year-old joined Tottenham in 2019 from West Ham and was part of the Spurs’ first-ever squad to compete in the WSL.
She went on to make 95 appearances for the Lilywhites, including playing a pivotal role in the 2023/24 team that made history by reaching the club’s first Women’s FA Cup final.
A lot of pressure on Spurs squad next season
Robert Vilahamn paid the ultimate price for Tottenham’s failures last season, but with a highly-rated manager in Ho being brought in, the onus will now shift to the players.
Beth England has carried the burden of the team on her shoulders, at times single-handedly, but the rest of the squad will now be under much more scrutiny to perform.
Spurs struggled to score goals, with more onus expected to fall on Martha Thomas to support her captain, while the team were equally poor defensively and will need to improve individually and as a unit to prove themselves worthy in the long run.
