Tottenham next manager: Pochettino in running in shock development

Mauricio Pochettino has now emerged as a shock contender to replace Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham manager.

Despite the 52-year-old only being appointed head coach of the USA national team in September, Paddy Power has now priced him at 20/1 to return to North London as Spurs continue to struggle.

Postecoglou is currently the second-favourite manager to be sacked next [Ladbrokes], with West Ham’s Julen Lopetegui the most at risk, and Pochettino has now joined the list of potential replacements.

USA fans greeted the Argentine with mixed reactions, with some rather unhappy after a defeat to Mexico in October, though he has since claimed back-to-back wins over Jamaica.

Pochettino was a popular figure at Hotspur Way during his five years with the Lilywhites, even despite not lifting silverware, but many had their feelings hurt after he took the Chelsea job in 2023.

Mauricio Pochettino to make shock return to Tottenham?

It seems highly unlikely that Pochettino will be considered by Daniel Levy if Postecoglou is to be relieved from his duties in North London.

While Spurs have shown little sign of switching managers, even despite the dreadful form on the pitch, the rumours are beginning to swirl, with Graham Potter now the strong favourite [Paddy Power].

That seems far more plausible than a return for Pochettino, who seemed to burn a few bridges upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge before being let go from his post by Todd Boehly.

With Newcastle United up next, followed by Liverpool, Tamworth and Arsenal, Postecoglou’s next few results could be very important for his future.

He is currently without a victory in his last three games, losing to the Reds and Nottingham Forest before dropping two points to Wolves in a home clash.

It is easy to see why supporters are so frustrated right now.
