Tottenham news round-up: Wissa update as forward to undergo medical

Tottenham are not letting the situation with Morgan Gibbs-White affect their progress this summer.

Thomas Frank spoke to the media for the first time on Friday (18 July), on the eve of Tottenham’s pre-season fixture against Reading (19 July).

The Danish manager was tight-lipped about transfer targets, but alluded to the fact that both Son Heung-min and Cristian Romero would feature at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Despite not giving away any clues, Spurs have continued to make progress in their preparations for the new season as Tottenham News brings you the latest updates from N17.

Spurs willing to pay Bournemouth’s asking price for Zabarnyi

Tottenham are interested in signing Illya Zabarnyi and are willing to pay Bournemouth’s £60.5million asking price for the talented centre-back.

The Ukraine international currently prefers a move to Paris Saint-Germain, with whom he has been heavily linked. However, the French club are yet to make an offer, with Spurs hoping to swoop in for the deal.

They will have to convince the player of the move, but are hopeful that the allure of the UEFA Champions League and the start of a new era will be enough to turn the defender’s head towards North London.

Zabarnyi has been crucial to the Cherries’ progress since arriving from Dynamo Kyiv in 2023, demonstrating composure and footballing intelligence far beyond what is expected from a 22-year-old.

Bryan Mbuemo set for medical at Manchester United

Manchester United look set to sign Bryan Mbeumo after stealing ahead of Tottenham in the race to sign the Cameroon international.

The forward is set to undergo a medical in Carrington after the Red Devils finally settled on a fee of over £70m for the Brentford star.

Mbeumo’s statistics for Brentford

He is seen as a big part of the rebuild under Ruben Amorim, and is expected to make the right-sided number ten role his own after a stellar campaign with the Bees last season.

It ends a protracted chase for United, who were hesitant to offer the full price but were sped up by recent developments regarding fellow Bees player Yoane Wissa.

Wissa deal unlikely as Man United set to sign Mbeumo

Mbeumo’s transfer to Manchester United has made Wissa far less likely to join Spurs this summer.

Brentford are determined not to sell both of their star forwards in the same window, especially after having lost Frank to the North Londoners last month.

Newcastle’s recent approach for Wissa, who was reportedly available for around £50m, was likely the catalyst for United advancing talks for Mbeumo in the last 24 hours.

It leaves the Lilywhites in an awkward position, as they are running out of options to bring in proven Premier League strikers to both challenge and assist Dominic Solanke next season.
