Tottenham news round-up: Spurs coach in shock manager news, Fabio Paratici twist

Tottenham were not in action this weekend but there have been a few major developments behind the scenes.

Spurs have to wait until Thursday (6 March) to put the disappointment of a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City behind them as they face AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 clash.

This is because Ange Postecoglou’s side had a free weekend after being knocked out of the FA Cup by Aston Villa earlier in February.

Meanwhile, plenty of things have been happening off the pitch and here, Tottenham News rounds up the latest from North London on Monday, 3 March.

Mathys Tel reveals Harry Kane chat

Tottenham’s signing of Mathys Tel was a saga of its own as the Frenchman completed a move from Bayern Munich in the final hours of the winter transfer window after lots of twists and turns.

The 19-year-old has hit the ground running in England, scoring Spurs’ only goal in their 2-1 FA Cup defeat against Aston Villa.

Tel surely knew much about Tottenham through Harry Kane at Bayern and has now lifted the lid on what the England international told him about the club.

“Harry told me you will enjoy the training ground, it’s very, very, very good”, Tel told TNT Sports (3 March).

“If you need something just call me and I can help you.”

Benjamin Sesko transfer update emerges from Germany

Tottenham have expressed an interest in signing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig this summer, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports Germany journalist reported via his personal X account (3 March) that the Slovenia international has a ‘formally fixed release clause’ in his contract.

However, the figure changes depending on several factors, including the number of games he has played, goals and assists.

This means, although the release clause currently stands at £58million, it is expected to rise to £66m by the end of the season.

Tottenham coach in shock running for Rangers job

Rangers are currently without a permanent manager after sacking Philippe Clement, with Barry Ferguson tasked with leading the side until the end of the season on an interim basis.

With the Premiership heavyweights the subject of a takeover bid, they are waiting until the summer to appoint a permanent manager to replace Clement.

Several managers have been mooted to take the hot seat at Ibrox, with Ryan Mason the latest to be linked with a move to Glasgow.

According to Oddschecker (2 March), Postecoglou’s assistant is rated as a 33/1 favourite to take the reins at Ibrox, putting him on level with Ferguson’s current assistant Neil McCann.

Fabio Paratici twist at Tottenham

Fabio Paratici has set his sights on returning to football once his 30-month suspension, which was handed in 2023, is lifted.

The Italian transfer guru was barred from engaging in football business after an investigation into Juventus’ capital gains scandal.

However, with the ban set to end on 30 June, Paratici is in discussions with Premier League clubs over a new job, according to Tuttosport.

While AC Milan is also being mooted as an intriguing option for him, a return to Tottenham is said to be difficult.

This is despite Paratici continuing to be an advisor to Daniel Levy during his suspension.
