Tottenham news round-up: Son exit update as Chelsea hold transfer talks

Thomas Frank will hope to complete at least one more signing before Tottenham travel to Asia.

Spurs are set to take on Luton on Saturday (26 July) before jetting off to Hong Kong to continue their pre-season preparations.

Frank was pleased with his side’s first outing as they beat Reading 2-0 (19 July), but will still be keen to add fresh faces to his squad as he works towards building a team capable of competing in all four competitions.

The Dane will be hoping to get the deals across the line before Spurs’ travels, as Tottenham News brings you the latest updates from N17.

Tottenham weighing up a move for Marc Guehi

Tottenham have not ruled out making a move for Marc Guehi this summer after the England international entered the final year of his contract with Crystal Palace.

The Lilywhites had a bid for the 24-year-old rejected in the winter transfer window, but are still interested in the centre-back and are considering whether to challenge Liverpool for his signature.

The final verdict may depend on whether Cristian Romero ends up staying in North London, as Guehi would likely demand regular game time if he were to make the switch across the capital.

Son Heung-min’s exit impossible ahead of the tour in Asia

Tottenham would lose out on up to 75 per cent of their tour fee if Son Heung-min were not to travel with Spurs to Asia, making it “virtually impossible” to sell the captain beforehand [The Telegraph].

The ‘key player clause’ states that the income the Lilywhites would receive is mainly dependent on the South Korea icon’s presence in their friendlies against Arsenal and Newcastle.

Chelsea in talks with Xavi Simons’ camp

Chelsea have ramped up talks with Xavi Simons ahead of a proposed transfer worth over £60million.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for the RB Leipzig star, who would be an exciting alternative to Morgan Gibbs-White, should that deal not go through.

The Netherlands international registered 10 goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga for his side last season, but has been pushing for a move since May.

The German side are happy to sell. However, any approach from Spurs for the versatile 22-year-old attacker will have to be accelerated as Chelsea are keen on bringing Simons to Stamford Bridge.
