Tottenham news round-up: Romero offer ready as Solanke reacts to confirmed deal

Thomas Frank has learned a great deal about the Tottenham squad after their first pre-season fixture.

The Dane watched on as Spurs scored two goals from set pieces to beat Reading 2-0 at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday (19 July).

There were some very encouraging performances for Frank to draw on, but the game also highlighted key areas that the Dane still needs to address.

The 53-year-old now has a better idea of what needs to be done to improve the squad, as Tottenham News brings you the latest updates from N17.

Morgan Gibbs-Whites applauds fans during Monaco fixture

While Tottenham lined up against Reading, Nottingham Forest hosted Monaco in their first pre-season fixture of the summer, in which Tottenham target Morgan Gibbs-White featured.

The England international played the first half and was clapped off the pitch by the home supporters as he headed down the tunnel.

The 25-year-old reciprocated the applause before making a heart-shaped gesture towards the fans amid ongoing negotiations between Spurs and Forest.

Tottenham still expect a deal to be concluded, and Gibbs-White’s heartfelt signal to the spectators at the City Ground could indicate that the agreement is accelerating.

Cristian Romero to be offered a new Spurs contract

Frank has been full of praise for Romero, and is preparing to offer the centre-back a new contract to keep him at the club beyond 2027.

The Argentine has already rejected Tottenham’s first proposal as he was hoping to link up with his compatriot Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.

However, the move never materialised as Spurs’ valuation of the World Cup winner was too high, and the North Londoners are now pushing to tie him down to a new deal.

It is unclear whether Romero will accept, but the Argentine has opted not to cause friction at Spurs this summer and could yet be swayed to remain in N17 by Frank.

Dominic Solanke reacts to Kyle Walker-Peters’ move to West Ham

Dominic Solanke, along with former Lilywhite Erik Lamela, has reacted to the confirmation that Spurs academy graduate Kyle Walker-Peters has completed his move to West Ham.

The 28-year-old moved to Southampton from North London in August 2020, before leaving the Saints last month after his contract expired.

The versatile fullback was linked with a move to Spurs this summer to help with the Lilywhites’ club-trained quota in the UEFA Champions League, but finally signed a three-year deal with the Hammers.

He joined with the well-wishes of both Solanke and Lamela, who liked West Ham’s post announcing their new recruit.
