Tottenham news round-up: James Maddison in trouble, fresh injury concern emerges
Ange Postecoglou’s side have a free weekend but plenty is happening off the pitch at Tottenham.
Spurs’ players will be handed a much-needed rest this weekend with the North London club already eliminated from the FA Cup.
However, after the 1-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday (26 February), Postecoglou and his players will no doubt be chomping at the bit to get going again and put things right.
All focus will be on the return of the UEFA Europa League with Spurs set to travel to the AFAS Stadion to take on AZ Alkmaar on Thursday (6 March).
Here, Tottenham News rounds up the latest news from North London on Friday 28 February.

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer furious after Tottenham v Man City controversy
Erling Haaland had a late goal ruled out controversially during the clash between Spurs and City.
While speaking on The Rest Is Football (28 February), Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer expressed their frustration over the incident, as Lineker said, “[Haaland] was quite unlucky to not get another goal in the game. They looked at it about 400 times and the fact that the referee disallowed it on the pitch means they didn’t have any evidence to change that decision.
“That handball law is bonkers, isn’t it. If it just grazes your arm, they’ll give that and yet, if a defender has his arms by his side and it hits them in the penalty area, that’s not a penalty.
“How can one be a penalty and the other one not? The whole handball law is a farce.”
Shearer added, “They’ve tied themselves up in knots with the handball law over the years.
“They’ve tried and tried and changed and changed and it’s just a mess. I don’t see any problem with saying ‘Is it deliberate handball or not?’ That is how to simplify it.”
James Maddison ‘to be replaced at Tottenham’
Maddison looks as though he might be finished at Tottenham.
It comes after TBR Football reported (27 February) that Spurs are interested in Como 1907 attacking midfielder Nico Paz.
Como 1907 2024/25 | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Nico Paz | 24 | 6 | 5 |
Scouts from the North London club have been impressed with the 20-year-old after his impressive performances in Italy this season. Therefore, Postecoglou could look to replace Maddison with Paz if the midfielder is signed.
Mikey Moore injury concern emerges at Tottenham
Mikey Moore was absent from the Tottenham squad against Manchester City.
As a result, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham fears the 17-year-old might have suffered a knock. Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said, “He might have suffered a small knock because you’ve got to remember before the game against City, Moore had started four out of five.
“Therefore, it would be unusual if he was suddenly left out of the squad, and he hadn’t suffered an injury of some sort. As a result, I wouldn’t be surprised if he has suffered a small knock.
