Tottenham news round-up: Huge takeover update, ‘terrible’ announcement made
Ange Postecoglou will be fully focused on the Premier League clash with Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs will host Pep Guardiola’s side in North London on Wednesday (26 February) as they look to make it four Premier League wins on the bounce.
However, while Postecoglou and his players will be focused on the task at hand – with one key Spurs player in line to be dropped for the clash with City – plenty has been happening off the field too.
Here, Tottenham News rounds up the latest news from North London on Wednesday 26 February.

Ally McCoist predicts Tottenham v Man City
While speaking live on talkSPORT (26 February), Ally McCoist and Sam Matterface both predicted Spurs to overcome Manchester City.
Matterface said, “Both defences are conceding goals wherever they play. I’d expect goals again. I’m going to go 3-2 Tottenham Hotspur, as we must call them, and [Brennan] Johnson to score.”
McCoist added, “Manchester City are absolutely all over the place. It’s as difficult a game to predict as you can get but Tottenham Hotspur will win the match 2-1 and [Dejan] Kulusevski will score.”

Rio Ferdinand shocked by Kieran Maguire’s claim about Tottenham
While speaking via Rio Ferdinand Presents (26 February), the former Manchester United defender asked Kieran Maguire who the best-run club in the Premier League were.
Maguire responded, “Spurs. They are the most profitable club in the history of the Premier League by far.
“Best stadium. Lowest wages compared to the money coming in. As a business, if I take away my football hat and put on my business hat, it’s absolutely perfect. Also, they don’t have to pay any bonuses for winning trophies.”
Ferdinand was left laughing as he said, “Oh my gosh. Shots have been fired.”
Tottenham make “terrible” announcement
As reported by the Daily Mail (26 February, page 63), Spurs have made a formal request to broadcasters to only be referred to as ‘Spurs’ or ‘Tottenham Hotspur’, rather than ‘Tottenham’.
However, Ian Hebert is less than impressed by this request, writing, “How can these club geniuses not see how terrible this farce looks?
“I thought brand management was all about optics – the image you create for your product. Tottenham’s geniuses neglect to see that retiring off ‘Tottenham’ has a terrible look.”
Levy derails Tottenham takeover
According to Bloomberg (26 February), Levy has derailed Tottenham takeover attempts in recent times.
It is reported that Levy has held talks with potential buyers. However, his demands have prevented these talks from progressing any further.

The 62-year-old’s desire to retain control has prevented a takeover deal from being agreed, as has the Spurs chairman’s high financial demands.
