Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards ‘felt a little bit sorry’ for Eric Dier in Tottenham loss v Wolves
Micah Richards says he “felt a little bit sorry” for Tottenham defender Eric Dier during Saturday’s (11 November) defeat at Wolves.
Dier was brought into Tottenham’s starting line-up for the first time this season in their 2-1 loss at Molineux due to injuries and suspensions.
The 29-year-old had less than an hour of action to his name this season prior to the Wolves match – coming the previous week in a 4-1 loss to Chelsea.

Reviewing Tottenham’s performance on The Rest Is Football podcast [13 November], Richards said: “I just thought they lacked something.
“I felt a little bit sorry for Eric Dier because they actually did defend well for large parts of the game.
“But when you have [Cristian] Romero and [Micky] van de Ven [ruled out], and you have [Ben] Davies and Dier coming in, it was so difficult. They just couldn’t hold on.”
Discussing Dier’s future, former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Tottenham News:
“I’ve read reports about Eric Dier, whether it’s linking up with Harry Kane at Bayern Munich or whether it’s linking up with Jose Mourinho at Roma,” Robinson said.
“He’s a quality footballer and an England international. He’s had his good times and his indifferent times at Tottenham.
“I think if you look at what Tottenham have got, I think they’re going to need more cover in that area if he is to leave.

“Eric Dier didn’t seem to be part of his plans, and for a player of his quality at his age, he’ll want to play football. It’s not going to be in his best interests to sit on the bench, not playing minutes and watching Tottenham every week when others are available.
“Coming to the end of his contract, it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out, but for me looking from the outside in, he’s going to be frustrated and he’s going to want to play football.
“Whether there’s a solution for him and the club that’s addressed in January, and he gets to play football, it shows how much of a quality player he is that the likes of Bayern Munich and Roma are looking at him. There’s still a very, very good ball-playing centre half there.”
