Tottenham mocked in The Sun, ‘obvious Berbatov joke’ is possibly true

Tottenham Hotspur are enduring a miserable season, and there has been no escape from media criticism, even during the international break.

Ange Postecoglou is under serious pressure as Spurs boss, with results this season a disaster, and the Europa League remains the only hope of any salvation in this campaign.

Spurs have lost an astonishing 15 games in the Premier League alone this season, whilst there were embarrassing cup exits against Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Although it is a campaign which has been marred by a lot of key injuries, Spurs find themselves 14th in the Premier League table, and they have now been mocked by the chief reporter of The Sun.

The Sun mock Spurs after charity match victory vs AC Milan

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium played host to a charity match between Spurs and AC Milan legends, with former superstars on both teams.

Despite the legendary Andrea Pirlo scoring an outrageous free-kick, Spurs legends strolled to a 6-2 victory, and The Sun have now stated that retired icons such as Dimitar Berbatov would still beat the faltering current side.

“The obvious joke, that the veterans could still beat Ange Postecoglou’s first team, was barely even funny because it is possibly true,” chief reporter Dave Kidd wrote (March 25, page 48).

Postecoglou would certainly be jealous of a front line of Berbatov and Jermaine Defoe, and Kidd did point out that the legends team squad would have been perfect for the Australian.

“The flair of some of those Spurs players of the not-too-distant past also showed that Postecoglou’s devil-may-care style was more in tune with the club’s ethos than most of his predecessors,” he added.

In a miserable season where Spurs have lost seven league games at home, there was some joy for those in attendance at the charity match, and certainly more entertainment.

Michael Dawson and Ledley King were impressive at the back, with the latter receiving a heroes welcome, whilst Aaron Lennon still showed his rapid speed on the wings.

Robbie Keane also scored a hattrick, with all of his shots hitting the target, and Ossie Ardilles’ side secured a huge victory, bringing more happiness to the fans in attendance than Postecoglou’s team managed all season.
