Tottenham make ‘Pathetic’ announcement after defeat v Nottingham Forest

Tottenham’s shocking Premier League season continued after a 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest on Monday.

The Lilywhites have nothing left to play for in domestic action, but their defeat gave former boss Nuno Espirito Santo a boost in his quest for Champions League football with Forest.

Spurs have now dropped down to 16th in the Premier League table, just two places above the relegation zone, highlighting how far they have fallen this term.

Tottenham supporters struggling on and off the pitch

Tottenham returned to Premier League action with a harsh reminder of the struggles they’re facing this term, conceding after just five minutes.

Although Ange Postecoglou’s men dominated the game, they could not take advantage of being on top, and a late Richarlison goal proved to be only a consolation.

It took until the 87th minute for Spurs to get a goal, and supporters were unsurprisingly exiting the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the game concluded.

That being said, supporters who were keen to get home after a long evening of football were not given an easy way out, after it was announced that White Hart Lane station was closed.

Gabby Agbonlahor took no time to use that as a stick to beat Spurs with as he posted on X (21 April): “This sums Spurs up. Pathetic they are.”

Postecoglou hanging on to Tottenham job

Postecoglou may have overseen progression into the semi-finals of the Europa League, but continuous disappointment in the Premier League is not doing much for his long-term job security.

Winning a trophy is the only thing that could come close to saving Tottenham’s season, but even then, there are now doubts over whether this will be enough to secure the Australian’s job past the end of the campaign.

Supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be struggling both on and off the pitch at the moment, and with the likes of Agbonlahor taking jibes, it sums up how the Lilywhites are viewed.

Ironically, Agbonlahor may have benefited more from a Tottenham victory to dent Nottingham Forest’s ambitions for the Champions League, given that Aston Villa are looking to secure a top-five spot too.

The painful bit for the north London side is that they are being used as a team to get results for others, rather than having any chance of competing at the top of the Premier League themselves.
